Parenting plans and smooth transitions can help children

Parenting your children after a divorce can be challenging. Essentially, you are going to be a part-time single parent. The good news is that you will have downtime when your ex has the kids. This is a good time for you to work on matters with yourself and to relax so that you are refreshed and ready to go when the kids come back home.

We know that you might not relish the idea of having alone time, but it is important for the kids to have time with the other parent. In fact, it is a good idea for you to take the time to encourage the children to build a meaningful relationship with your ex. Hopefully, your ex does the same for you.

One way that you can make the child custody arrangement as easy on the children as possible is to have a relaxed transition time for them. Typically, it is best for the parent who has the child to bring them to the other parent. This gives the kids a chance to adjust to the differences in homes. It is often harder for them to sit around and wait on a parent to come pick them up from the home they are in now.

There really isn't a single parenting plan that will work for every situation. You have to find the unique option that works for your children. By putting them first, you are taking the steps necessary to give them a stable life that enables them to thrive even though they have undergone a serious life change.
