Parenting plans and goals must align

On Behalf of | Jun 5, 2019 | child custody | 0 comments

Going through a divorce is a major life change. When you have children who are going through these changes, you will likely need to help them with the transition. One thing that you can do is remind them that changes are a chance for improvement. You can use this as a time to set things up in a way that is best for you and your kids.

You will have to determine what parenting goals you have now that you are single. This doesn’t have to be some serious long-term plan. These goals can be simple and small. For example, you might decide that you want to spend more time with your children or that you want to take them on one vacation a year. Putting these in writing help to give you a focal point for decisions you need to make.

If your children are old enough to take part in goal-making, find out what they want to do. These family goals don’t have to replace your own personal goals. Instead, they can all work as part of an overall plan.

When you are going through the process of the divorce, you need to ensure that you align the parenting plan and goals. The terms in this plan can have a big impact on what you do with the children. For example, if your goal is a vacation in Paris, France with the children, you will need to ensure that there isn’t a clause in the plan that forbids international travel.

You and your ex may have to negotiate the terms of the parenting plan together. This is your chance to get things set up in a way that’s beneficial for the kids.
